(Feb. 20, 2012)—Wacker Chemical Corp. has developed Elastosil N9111, a general-purpose adhesive and sealant for the household appliances, automotive and electronics sectors.
The one-component silicone rubber compound is a tin-free formulation, Wacker said, and it cures at room temperature in the presence of atmospheric moisture.
Unlike such conventional RTV-1 grades, this adhesive is fully compatible with platinum-catalyzed silicone products, even in an uncured state, according to Wacker.
The company said this means electronic devices can be encapsulated in silicone gel as soon as the bead has been applied.
Further applications include bonding applications in the household appliances sector and reliable mounting and bonding of front windows of microwave ovens. The cured rubber is resistant to both UV light and temperatures of up to 200°C.
