WASHINGTON (July 24, 2012)—Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 46 VW Beetles, model year 2012, for tires that may not be in compliance with U.S. safety standards.
The vehicles were assembled in Mexico during August and September 2011, VW told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A factory error caused the cars to be equipped with summer tires that are incorrect for U.S. specifications, the auto maker said.
To VW's knowledge, there have been no accidents or injuries because of the incorrect tire installations, it said. The company will replace the tires free of charge on or about September 2012, when it expects to have enough replacement tires for the recall, it said.
