LAWRENCE, Kan. (July 12, 2012)—Wholesale tire distributor K&M Tire Inc. has purchased an 81,640-sq.-ft. warehouse in Lawrence for an undisclosed amount.
K&M plans to have the Lawrence warehouse fully operational by Aug. 6, the company said. With this purchase, K&M now has 13 warehouses in its distribution network, it said.
K&M needed a warehouse in the Kansas City area, and the Lawrence warehouse represented the best deal close to Kansas City, said Cheryl Gossard, K&M vice president. Lawrence is 35 miles west of downtown Kansas City.
Gossard declined to divulge the purchase price of the warehouse.
From the new warehouse, K&M will deliver passenger, light truck, commercial truck, farm and utility tires to retailers in Kansas and Missouri. Brian Christiansen will serve as warehouse manager, K&M said. The company is also in the process of hiring three full-time delivery truck drivers and an outside sales representative to serve the warehouse, it said.
Founded in 1970, Delphos, Ohio-based K&M distributes tires to customers in more than 20 states. It distributes 19 brands of passenger and light truck tires, seven brands of commercial truck tires and eight brands of farm and utility tires.
In addition to the Lawrence warehouse, K&M has purchased property in Barnesville, Minn., with plans to build a 50,000-sq.-ft. warehouse there, the company said.
