NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 26, 2012)—Tennessee's state government has announced 41 grants worth $2.8 million to communities for fiscal 2013-2014 to help them recycle tires.
The grants are supported by the Solid Waste Management Fund, which receives revenue from a pre-disposal fee on the purchase of new tires, the state said.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Bob Martineau, state environment and conservation commissioner, disclosed the funding on June 25. They said Tennessee recycles about 55,000 tons of waste tires a year.
