TOKYO (June 19, 2012)—Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. and its subsidiaries have planted 23,000 trees so far this year as part of the firm's Green Wave 2012 global tree-planting campaign.
This year more than 2,700 participants have helped plant trees at 11 of the company's 22 global locations. Plantings took place at the company's domestic plants in Hiratsuka, Onomichi, Ibaraki, Shinshiro, Mie and Mishima, Japan, along with its Daigo Proving Ground and Research Center.
Overseas locations where plantings took place include SC Kingflex Corp. in Taiwan; Yokohama Tire Corp. in the U.S.; and Yokohama Tire Mfg. (Thailand) Co. Ltd. and the Tire Test Center of Asia in Thailand.
The company's 11 locations that did not plant trees this year staged watering, weeding and other events to care for trees already planted, Yokohama said.
In addition to its own plantings, Yokohama also provides seedlings raised by employees at the company's plants to administrations, schools and other companies. During Green Wave 2012, 4,235 seedlings were delivered to local communities.
Yokohama's participation in the Green Wave project is part of its larger initiative announced in 2007 to plant 500,000 trees by 2017 at all Yokohama Rubber Group facilities for the celebration of the company's 100th anniversary. So far, it has planted 256,000 trees.
