AKRON (May 8, 2012)—Goodyear will receive a 2012 Manny Award in the “Green Initiative” category from Inside Business magazine, a bimonthly Northeast Ohio-based business publication, in recognition of Goodyear's Zero Waste to Landfill Program.
For the past 15 years, the Manny Awards have recognized Northeast Ohio manufacturers for their accomplishments, innovation and best practices. Goodyear will receive the award May 17 at a banquet in Cleveland and will be featured in the May/June issue of Inside Business.
Since 2008, none of Goodyear's 53 factories worldwide have sent any manufacturing waste to landfills, the tire maker said. The initiative began in 2006 as a means to reduce the company's environmental impact by requiring all plants to reduce, reuse and recycle manufacturing waste.
“Goodyear believes our Zero Waste to Landfill initiative represents a responsible next step in environmental stewardship, both through the effective management of byproducts and also the elimination of materials going into landfills,” said Dave Chapman, Goodyear's director of environmental, health and safety sustainability.
