WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (April 4, 2012)—The Michelin brand has come out top in three out of four categories in J.D. Power and Associates' U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study.
Pirelli was tops in the one remaining category, the performance-sport segment, with an index score of 788 on a 1,000-point scale. Michelin ranked highest in these three segments: luxury (777); passenger car (726); and truck/utility (740).
Westlake Village-based J.D. Power said vehicle-buyers' impressions of the OE tires on their vehicles influences their future vehicle-purchasing decisions and also their choice about where to service their vehicle.
According to the research firm's OE survey, among owners that rate the quality and appeal of their vehicles as “truly exceptional,” and that rate their tires as “truly exceptional”—when compared to owners that do no rate their tires as highly, Power said they are more likely to say they “definitely will” return to the car dealer for maintenance and repair work—89 percent vs. 82 percent—and more likely to return to the dealer for future tire service work—44 percent vs. 32 percent.
