FULLERTON, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2012)—Yokohama Tire Corp. welcomes the delay in introducing consumer tire labels in the U.S., according to Dan King, Yokohama senior vice president of sales and marketing.
In an interview posted the tire company's website, King noted NHTSA has been delaying its final ruling on the Tire Fuel Efficiency Consumer Information Program in the U.S.
“We've had discussions with them regarding legislations as well as with the (Rubber Manufacturers Association), being an active member and on the board of that organization,” he said. “We've been successful in getting NHTSA to step back and make sure they feel it is the right direction.”
King said the program still could be implemented this year and become a major issue in 2013-14.
Yokohama supports tire labeling, but believes U.S. implementation needs further thought and discussion, the executive said.
