FINDLAY, Ohio (Jan. 19, 2012)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has completed its $17 million acquisition of the assets of the former Trayal Corp. tire plant in Krusevac, Serbia.
The plant is idled while the company recruits employees, a Cooper spokeswoman said.
Cooper plans to start up the 35-year-old car and light truck plant to get it back into production by the end of January. Cooper didn't disclose the type of tires nor brands the facility will produce initially.
Cooper earlier said it would spend about $67 million over three years to upgrade the plant—being renamed Cooper Tire Serbia—and expand its capacity to 3 million units annually.
