SAN JOSE, Calif. (Dec. 21, 2011)—Tech Group Inc. is installing an expandable clean room for medical device assembly at its Phoenix facility, and the company plans to add liquid silicone rubber molding capability soon.
The Class 100,000 clean room will begin operating in February in an initial 3,500 square feet with the potential to grow to a total of 6,000 square feet, said Tom Podesta, vice president of health care sales and marketing for the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based business.
Tech Group moved warehousing from the Phoenix plant to nearby leased space and revamped the vacated area for the clean room.
Currently, the facility has a 15,000-sq.-ft. Class 100,000 clean room for injection molding.
Tech Group in Phoenix will get its first LSR cell during 2012's first quarter in a transfer from the cell's current production location in a Williamsport, Pa., consumer products plant of West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. The cell includes a 110-ton injection molding press.
In 2005, Lionville, Pa.-based West acquired Tech Group, now part of West's pharmaceutical delivery systems segment.
Tech Group exhibited at the BiomeDevice show, held Dec. 6-7 in San Jose.
