ALBANY, N.Y.—Momentive Performance Materials Inc. has entered a deal with Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. to collaborate on the production of the Ensave Premium tire.
The companies said Ensave is the first tire to use Momentive's NXT Z 45 silane, a coupling agent for silica-based tire tread compound. Momentive said the company aims to improve dynamic and physical properties, including rolling resistance and wet traction, with the silane.
Momentive said the NXT silane technology can also help save energy, increase manufacturing efficiency and improve automotive safety.
The Ensave Premium tire has earned the highest rating (AAA) for rolling resistance under Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association's labeling system, the companies said. It was launched at the Tokyo Motor Show in December.
