(Oct. 17, 2011)—Wacker Chemie A.G. will present a biocompatible silicone adhesive it recently developed for medical applications at the Compamed 2011 exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany, from Nov. 16-18.
The condensation-curing silicone rubber formulation is called Silpuran 4200. Wacker said it is an easy-to-process, single-component adhesive with excellent adhesion properties.
Upon vulcanization, Silpuran 4200 forms a silicone elastomer that is ideal for permanently bonding components of medical devices, Wacker said.
The adhesive is formulated with a new catalyst that doesn't use organotin compounds, the firm said, making it particularly safe to use from a health standpoint.
The adhesive has been certified as biocompatible in accordance with selected ISO 10993-1 and USP Class VI tests.
