CUCAMONGA, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2011)—Kumho Tire USA Inc.'s plans for a 1.3 million-sq.-ft. tire plant in the Georgia are back on hold.
A Kumho Tire USA spokeswoman confirmed the firm won't begin building the facility in south Bibb County, in which Macon, Ga., is located, for another two years. The subsidiary of South Korea's Kumho Tire Co. Ltd. announced four years it ago it would build the factory, and officially broke ground in 2008, expecting to start production by the end of 2009.
However, in February 2009 a company executive said the continuing struggling global economy had caused the firm to delay construction of the plant, which would be Kumho's first factory outside of Asia. Last January Rick Brennan, Kumho vice president of marketing, said the $225 million project was on hold again because of the economy.
When completed, Kumho has said the facility would employ 450.
