AKRON (Nov. 14, 2011)—Daniel L. Smytka has been named president of Goodyear's Asia Pacific business unit, replacing Pierre Cohade, who has decided to leave Goodyear and move to a new opportunity that the company said will be announced at a later date.
The Akron-based tire maker said Smytka has more than 25 years of leadership experience. He has successfully run Goodyear's Asia consumer business and subsequently led the relocation and expansion of its factory in China.
Smytka joined Goodyear in 2008 as vice president of its consumer tire business in the Asia Pacific region. Previously, his career spanned nearly 20 years of progressively larger operational, consumer and commercial business leadership roles with General Electric Co., according to Goodyear.
While at GE, he spent three years in China, including serving as president of the company's consumer and industrial business for the Asia Pacific region. He also worked at United Technologies Corp. immediately prior to joining Goodyear.
