AKRON (Nov. 10, 2011)—The International Tire Exhibition & Conference, organized by Rubber & Plastics News and Tire Business, will support the tire industry via a $20,000 charity and scholarship program debuting at next year's event
“ITEC is pledging $10,000 to tire manufacturers' charitable funds,” said David Zielasko, RPN publisher and a vice president of Crain Communications Inc., parent of RPN and TB. “In addition, ITEC will provide $10,000 to support the scholarship efforts of the industry's state and provincial tire dealer associations.”
Zielasko said the donation is a great way for ITEC to contribute to the tire industry.
“Especially today, when many charities are looking for additional funds and many students are struggling to pay for college tuitions, these donations from ITEC could mean the difference for some of them attending college, or not,” he said.
The donations earmarked for the manufacturing and aftermarket segment could grow beyond $10,000 each, Zielasko said, since aftermarket companies and suppliers will be invited to become sponsors in the new program.
Distribution of money from the ITEC Charity Program will be based on the highest employee attendance among tire manufacturers at ITEC 2012. The $10,000 will be given to the winning company to be used for whatever charity the firm decides.
For the aftermarket end, the ITEC Scholarship Program funds will be split among the top three state and provincial tire dealer associations that send the most members from their association to ITEC.
The conference adn trade show will take place Sept. 18-20, 2012, at Cleveland's International Exhibition Center.
