GIESSEN, Germany (Nov. 7, 2011)—Rubber processing company Poppe GmbH & Co. K.G., marking its 100th year in business, expects to complete construction of is second plant in mid-2012.
The company said the new operation is being built adjacent to its century-old facility in Giessen, which will be demolished after construction is completed. Poppe specializes in lathe-cut elastomeric seals, profiles and hoses, and claims to be Europe's largest producer of lathe-cut gaskets, used largely in jars and containers for food use, as well as engine applications.
The manufacturer since 2000 has operated a factory it built in Giessen. Among the big events in its history were several acquisitions of German companies: Veritas A.G. in Gelhausen and Ullrich Gummiwerke in Hesse in the 1950s; Rudolf Schoen GmbH in the 1980s; and Globus Gummiwerke GmbH in the 1990s.
The firm said operations ceased during both World Wars, but restarted after the conflicts ended.
