EASLEY, S.C. (Oct. 31, 2011)—YH America South Carolina L.L.C. has joined the growing ranks of automotive product manufacturers expanding in South Carolina.
A maker of fluid handling components for light vehicles, the company plans to invest about $5.14 million spread over five years to enlarge its Easley plant and add about 93 jobs, according to Plant Manager Christopher Estock.
He said the firm currently employs about 480 at the site and has started hiring to fill the new positions.
The company plans to add about another 30,000 square feet to the Easley production facility, which has about 70,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing, Estock said.
YH America South Carolina hopes to boost capacity and improve efficiency at the factory once the addition is completed. It did not say how much capacity would be added.
The expansion is expected to be completed in 2012. The addition is part of the manufacturer's market strategy to achieve 30-percent sales growth in 2012, Estock said.
“South Carolina offers us a great business climate and top talent to meet our needs,” Estock said. “We appreciate all the support we received from state and local officials.”
Demand for the YH America South Carolina's products is continuing to grow, he said, and the additional business the firm has gained prompted the manufacturer to expand its operation. The company anticipates that it will continue its growth well into the future, he said.
The automotive sector has done much better in 2011 than what was originally estimated, Estock said, so YH America South Carolina, which primarily produces its components for the light vehicle industry in North America, has become much more optimistic about the segment as it looks ahead toward next year.
One of four divisions operating under YH America Inc.—which was formed by Japanese parent Yokohama Rubber Co. in 1989—the South Carolina operation formerly was known as Fluid Routing Solutions Inc.
It has been bolstering its operation since the business was purchased from a capital investment company by Yokohama in 2009.
YH America South Carolina manufactures its various automotive fluid handling products for transporting and routing of fluids, fuels and gases in vehicles produced by original equipment automotive makers.
Parent YH America Inc., based in Versailles, Ky., is a growing player in the power steering hose market.
It makes and sells power steering and air conditioning hose and also produces adhesives for automotive window frames and lamps.
