CLEVELAND (Oct. 11, 2011)—Orion Engineered Carbons is exhibiting at its first ACS Rubber Division meeting this week, but it's no stranger to the rubber industry.
Orion's predecessor companies have a long, proud history of exhibiting at Rubber Division expos and serving the rubber industry, according to Michael Kousaie, Orion technical manager-tire industry North America.
Orion was the carbon black division of first Degussa Corp., then Evonik-Degussa. When parent company Evonik decided to move more in the green technology direction, two private development firms in the United Kingdom went 50-50 in a joint venture to buy the carbon black operations.
Orion Engineered Carbons officially opened for business Aug. 1, said Kousaie, who was manning Orion's booth at the Rubber Expo.
Drawing on more than a century of experience, Orion Engineered Carbons makes high-performance carbon blacks under the Durex brand name. Its U.S. headquarters is in Humble, Texas.
