CLEVELAND (Oct. 11, 2011)—Edge Rubber is doubling its production capacity for fine-mesh rubber powders at its plant in Chambersburg, Pa., according to Samuel E. Kauffman, Edge Rubber vice president and chief operating officer.
The expansion project is strictly for powders of 80 mesh and finer, to meet growing demand for those grades of powders, Kauffman said on Oct. 11 at the 180th ACS Rubber Division meeting and expo in Cleveland.
Edge Rubber evaluated the possibility of an expansion in fine-mesh powders between October 2010 and March 2011, and began phase one of the project shortly thereafter, according to Kauffman. That phase has been completed, and the next five phases will be finished during over the next 24 months.
When the expansion is finished, the Chambersburg plant's total capacity will increase to approximately 70 million pounds from the current 40 million, he said.
