WASHINGTON (Sept. 30, 2011)—The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $8.4 million to four companies—including Eaton Corp.—to fund projects to develop and demonstrate technologies that increase the efficiency of engines and powertrain systems for future highway vehicles.
The agency said the projects will focus on innovations in thermal efficiency while meeting federal emissions standards for passenger and commercial vehicles
Eaton received one of the largest awards—$2.5 million—to development and demonstrate advanced component technology for heavy-duty diesel engine waste heat recovery systems. These systems will be capable of improving the fuel economy of heavy-duty vehicles, the DOE said.
