LONDON, England (Sept. 23, 2011)—A tire recycling plant in the Croydon are of south London was damaged by fire Sept. 22.
The fire at the two-story Neolay factory caused the closure of nearby roads because fire officials feared that gas cannisters stored on the site might explode, according to the Fire Industry Association.
About 50 firefighters fought the blaze, which caused the collapse of part of the structure. No injuries were reported, and the fire eventually was controlled.
