FRANKFURT, Germany (Aug. 29, 2011)—Continental A.G. will present the prototype Conti.eContact tire developed specifically for electrically-powered cars at the forthcoming Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA/International Automobile Exhibition) motor vehicle show in Frankfurt.
Conti said the new ContiEcoContact 5, which has been in production since spring 2011, features very low rolling resistance (20 percent less than its predecessor) combined with short braking distances, even on wet roads. As a result, the driving distances of electric cars can be lengthened considerably. This constitutes a major milestone in ensuring the acceptance of such cars outside of urban centers, the tire maker said.
Under the motto “Driving Future Mobility,” Continental will be exhibiting at this year's IAA from Sept. 15 to 25. Looking at automotive megatrends concerning safety, the environment, information and affordable cars as well as electromobility, Continental said it will offer at its show booth a view on the future of individual mobility.
