MUNICH, Germany—Wacker Chemie A.G. said it has developed a silicone encapsulant for the solar industry which enables flexible thin-film modules to be laminated cost-effectively using roll-to-roll processing.
Elastosil Solar 2200 is transparent, pourable and non-corrosive and vulcanizes rapidly at elevated temperatures. Wacker said.
In its cured state, Wacker said it provides thin-film solar cells with effective long-term protection from chemical and mechanical stresses. The silicone contains adhesion-promoting additives which ensure optimum bonding to all substrates typically used in the manufacture of thin-film modules, the company said.
