COLUMBUS, Ohio (Aug. 9, 2011)—The U.S. military's Defense Logistics Agency has awarded Michelin North America with two Best Value Awards, one each to Michelin Truck Tires and Michelin Aircraft Tires.
Michelin was one of 182 companies, out of more than 7,000 military parts suppliers, honored at a ceremony held during the 2011 DLA Industry Conference and Exhibition in Columbus recently.
Michelin was recognized for meeting performance requirements in the Automated Best Value System while acting as the prime contractor for the government's tire-privatization initiative.
Michelin won two Tire Privatization Initiative contracts in 2007 to procure, store and distribute tires to the U.S. military.
The company, which supplies tires for nearly every aircraft and ground vehicle used by the military, sources some of the tires from other tire manufacturers. The tire maker said it has delivered more than 1.5 million tires to more than 2,500 military locations around the world.
