KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 25, 2011)—Dato' Kamarul Baharain Bin Basir has been named secretary general of the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries for a three-year term that began July 1.
Kamarul, a nominee of the government of Malaysia, succeeds Indonesia's Djoko Damardjati, ANRPC said.
Kamarul, former director general of the Malaysian Rubber Board, brings to the ANRPC more than 34 years of experiences gained in developing the rubber industry of Malaysia, the association said.
He has been a member of the Malaysian Rubber Board since 1976 and became the director general in 2006, a position that he held until 2010.
He also had held various other positions including chairman of the International Rubber Trade Association, chairman of the Malaysian Rubber Exchange, and chairman of the Technical Committee of Standards Writing on Engineering Rubber Products.
