KOBE, Japan (July 12, 2011)—Sumitomo Rubber Industries' Sumitomo Rubber (Changshu) Co. Ltd. subsidiary in China produced its 50 millionth tire June 15.
The Chinese company was established in June 2002 to meet the growing needs of the Chinese market, according to Sumitomo. The plant, located in the Changshu Economic Development Zone, started producing passenger tires in April 2004. The plant has a production capacity of 6,000 tires per day.
Sumitomo said it plans to start up its second Chinese tire plant, Sumitomo Rubber (Hunan) Co. Ltd., in July 2012.
