MUNICH, Germany—Wacker Chemie A.G. has commissioned a compounding plant at its joint venture site, Wacker Metroark Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. near Kolkata, India, for ready-to-use silicone elastomers.
The Silmix facility has the capacity to produce several thousand metric tons and can be expanded.
The project is in response to India's strongly growing economy and increased demand for high-quality silicone compounds, according to Wacker.
Several million dollars are planned for investment in this plant, the company said.
Bernd Pachaly, head of Wacker's Engineering Silicones business unit, said the plant will supply the Indian electronics, automotive and medium, high-voltage insulator market and other industries.
