GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 1, 2011)—For the third year in a row, the National Business Group on Health has honored Michelin North America Inc. as one of the best employers for healthy lifestyles.
Michelin said this is the second year it has received the group's highest honor, the Platinum Award, for demonstrating commitment and dedication to its workers and their families by encouraging healthy lifestyles. The Greenville-based tire maker was one of 48 national employers to receive the 2011 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award and one of 20 to receive the Platinum Award.
The company's Choose Well–Live Well program is a long-term strategy intended to shift the focus of primary healthcare from treatment of illness to wellness, prevention and quality of care.
Michelin said it has seen a 30-percent reduction in employees classified as high health risk and a 44-percent increase in employee participation in a physical activity program. The tire maker also opened its first Family Health Center in North America at its headquarters and has broken ground on a second one at its Donaldson Center campus.
