MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (June 30, 2011)—Tire International Environmental Solutions Inc. is moving its entire recycled rubber products manufacturing operation from China to Moncks Corner in a $25 million investment, the company said.
Armed with incentives from the South Carolina Department of Commerce, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance and Berkeley County, S.C., Tire International has begun upgrading an existing, third-generation recycling and manufacturing plant in Moncks Corner.
The company will close down its Chinese operations in August and move everything to Moncks Corner, according to Martin Sergi, Tire International CFO and director. It expects to start production at the site by year-end with about 150 employees and an annual production capacity of 80 million pounds of scrap tire rubber.
Tire International will make the same products in Moncks Corner that it made in China, according to Sergi, including soft rubber pavers for home and garden, rubber mulch and tree rings, commercial and residential flooring, and rubberized asphalt.
