BOSTON (April 20, 2011)—Carbon black producer Cabot Corp. has pledged $500,000 to support earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.
Boston-based Cabot said it is donating $100,000 to the country's social welfare divisions Aizu-Wakamatsu City and Fukushima Prefecture at the request of its employees in Japan. Cabot operates carbon black plants in Chiba and Shimonoseki, Japan, and a business office in Tokyo.
Cabot also will donate $400,000 to local organizations dedicated to providing relief or rebuilding communities.
The donations are being made by the Cabot Corp. Foundation Inc., which supports outreach activities in local communities where Cabot operates. The Foundation will work with Cabot Japan to identify the greatest areas of need.
