FREUDENBERG, Germany (April 19, 2011)—Freudenberg Simrit L.P. presented its new range of FKM O-rings, which it said can be used permanently at temperatures of up to 150°C, in cooling water and oil.
Typically FKM O-rings used in applications such as the sealing of wet cylinder liners could only be used in cooling water at temperatures of up to a maximum of 125°C, according to Freudenberg.
The company said new FKM compound called Coolant FKM made it possible to increase that temperature to 150°C.
The compound can also be used at temperatures of up to 180°C for short periods of time, Freudenberg said.
The compound sealing material, which was developed specifically to meet high temperature requirements in internal combustion engines of all kinds, is manufactured without lead. This makes the new O-ring material is particularly safe for the environment from processing to the finished product to safe recycling, the firm said.
