BERWYN, Pa. (April 13, 2011)—Global polystyrene leader Styron L.L.C. is changing its name to Trinseo later this year.
Dow Chemical Co. sold Styron—its market-leading styrenics business—to private equity firm Bain Capital L.L.C. last year for $1.6 billion. The company is based in Berwyn.
“We believe that the new name of Trinseo will position the company better for future growth and greater potential as a global materials company,” said Chris Pappas, president and CEO of Styron.
“The name Styron is strongly tied to the styrenics chain—particularly polystyrene and styrene monomer, which are an important part of our company, but we are much more than that,” he said. “Our new name of Trinseo will communicate that we are leaders in a broader range of businesses, products and technologies, and it underscores our commitment to growth.”
Styron also makes ABS, SAN polymers, styrene-butadiene latex and synthetic elastomers, expanded PS and polycarbonate.
The Styron brand will continue to be used as a trade name for its PS products.
