TOKYO (April 8, 2011)—Bridgestone Corp. has donated more than $129,000 to relief efforts in New Zealand working in the aftermath of the Feb. 22 earthquake in Christchurch and disclosed $355,000 in donations from its Bridgestone Europe N.V./S.A. unit to the earthquake/tsunami relief efforts in Japan.
Bridgestone and its Bridgestone Australia Ltd. and Bridgestone New Zealand Ltd. subsidiaries donated to the New Zealand Red Cross. The confirmed death toll from the magnitude 6.3 earthquake there stands at 171, according to various news reports.
Bridgestone New Zealand is based in Aukland.
Bridgestone Europe's donation to the Japanese Red Cross Society is on top of about $3.5 million in cash and supplies that Bridgestone Corp. and Bridgestone Americas Inc. donated earlier.
