DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (April 4, 2011)—Bridgestone Corp. has established a sales company in Casablanca, Morocco, to serve what it sees as a “key region in which rapid economic expansion can be anticipated.”
The new company, Bridgestone Tire Sales Morocco Sarlau, started operations Apri1 1 with four employees. It reports to Bridgestone through the firm's Bridgestone Middle East & Africa FZE business unit in Dubai.
Bridgestone cited Morocco's growing export business in minerals and agricultural products—the result of recent free trade agreements with the European Union and the U.S.—for its optimism. Additionally, Bridgestone said, Morocco is building its infrastructure along the Mediterranean Sea coast in hopes of becoming a hub for the distribution of goods in and out of North Africa.
Thus Bridgestone said it is keen to strengthen its business in Morocco's promising market.
The office will be Bridgestone's ninth in the region. The others are in Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia (two locations).
Bridgestone did not disclose its sales expectations for the business.
