TOKYO (March 21, 2011)—The FÃ&Copy;dÃ&Copy;ration Internationale de Motocyclisme has extended Bridgestone Corp.'s contract as the official tire supplier for the MotoGP World Championship for three more years, through the 2014 season.
The contract, with MotoGP's commercial rights owner Dorna Sports, means that Bridgestone will continue to provide tires and technical support to every team and rider in MotoGP's top class as the championship moves to 1,000cc engines next year, up from 800cc.
“(Bridgestone's) ongoing commitment at this early point is important in allowing us all to plan for the future,” said Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, “especially for the teams as they are already under way with their development plans for next year and the new 1000cc era….”
Bridgestone said it received support from the Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers Association and the International Road Racing Teams Association to continue in the spec tire supplier role. The parties did not disclose the value of the new contract.
