WAKEFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 22, 2011)— Trelleborg A.B.'s recent purchase of Maine Industrial Tire L.L.C.'s plant in Xingtai, China, didn't include solid tire production at that site, which Maine Tire will continue to own and operate, Maine Tire said.
The Trelleborg Wheel Systems division deal included just the pneumatic tire manufacturing assets at the site, which operates as Hebei Starbright Tire Co. Ltd., Wakefield-based Maine Tire said.
Troy Kline, Maine Tire president and chief operating officer, said pneumatic tires are not pat of the firm's core business, although the firm had continued to make them under third-party brands.
“The sale of the pneumatic assets would allow for better alignment of our global resources.” Kline said. “Maine Tire will now have a singular focus on its core business—building world-class solid tire products for the conventional forklift, construction and specialty markets.”
