ST. LOUIS (Jan. 27, 2011)—Solutia Inc. plans to expand its Crystex insoluble sulfur operations in Kuantan, Malaysia as part of its plan to remain the leading supplier of the material.
Solutia said the project will double the site's current capacity, making it the firm's largest factory for insoluble sulfur. It did not provide current capacity figures or an investment for the expansion.
Sold under the Crystex brand, the material is a vulcanizing agent for critical applications in the tire industry, providing consistent quality and performance, the firm said. The Crystex HD (high dispersion) product is designed to give tire manufacturers improved productivity and safety in the production process.
Solutia selected Kuantan after a selection process it said “recognized the site's efficient operations, high-quality work force and ability to serve the rapidly growing markets of both China and India.”
