FINDLAY, Ohio (Jan. 14, 2011)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s Corp. de Occidente joint tire-making venture in Guadalajara, Mexico, has earned International Standards Organization 9001:2008 quality certification.
The Guadalajara plant is the seventh Cooper facility to achieve the internationally recognized quality certification. The certification coincides with Cooper's acquiring majority control of the Mexican company.
For Corp. de Occidente, this is another step in our transformation from a startup plant to a competitive, capable manufacturing facility,” said Jeff Schumaker, general manager of the Mexican company. “For Cooper, this completes a project we started several years ago in which all tire manufacturing facilities have achieved ISO 9001 quality certification. Our entire company has a solid foundation from which to improve.”
Other Cooper facilities with ISO 9001 certification are: tire plants in Findlay, Ohio; Melksham, England; Texarkana, Ark.; Tupelo, Miss.; and Kunshan, China; along with the Tall Timbers Mold Operations facility in Findlay. The corporate materials lab and tire testing operations have earned ISO 17025 testing and calibration certification.
In addition, the plants in Findlay, Texarkana, Tupelo and Rongchen City, China, have earned the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard, Cooper said.
