GREENVILLE, S.C. (Dec. 30, 2010)—Michelin North America Inc. is preparing to upgrade its Ford Wayne, Ind., tire plant.
A company spokeswoman said the firm is “laying the groundwork for making improvements to the plant, but at this point no final decisions have been made on exactly what those improvements will be.” She wouldn't confirm a story in the Fort Wayne News Sentinal newspaper that quoted a union local president giving details of the project.
“We appreciate the support we receive from Fort Wayne, Allen County and the state of Indiana. Michelin is constantly analyzing the competitive North American environment,” the spokeswoman said. “When deciding on possible future investments, state and local incentives are a strong plus.”
The Fort Wayne plant employs about 1,400 and makes passenger and light truck radial tires.
