SEOUL, South Korea (Dec. 14, 2010) — South Korean manufacturer SK Group has completed the construction of a polyurethanes plant in the special economic zone of Dzierzoniów in southwestern Poland.
The unit is intended to supply primarily South Korean automotive and Russian and European home appliance manufacturers in the region.
The facility also will act as a base for its SKC division to export chemicals to Europe from its plant in Ulsan, South Korea.
Its Polish operation is the third PU systems house it has established outside South Korea. Earlier this year, the group completed work on a new PU unit in Georgia.
SKC now plans to establish three other plants in India and South East Asia before 2013.
Two years ago, SKC Haas, a joint venture between the SK Group and U.S. specialty chemicals producer Rohm & Haas, launched a $23 million plant in Dzierzoniów to make optical polyester films and foil for liquid crystal displays. The partners had plans at the time to construct additional plants in the area.
