WASHINGTON (Nov. 12, 2010)—The 10th annual National Tire Safety Week is scheduled for June 5-11, 2011, the Rubber Manufacturers Association announced.
An initiative of the RMA's “Be Tire Smart-Play Your PART” program, National Tire Safety Week features tire manufacturers and retailers across the U.S. working together to educate motorists about proper tire care and maintenance.
The association provides participating tire retailers, auto dealers and auto repair shops with “Be Tire Smart” brochures and other educational materials. In turn, many of the participating retail outlets promote tire care through advertising, promotions, free tire checks and media outreach.
Educating consumers about proper tire care—as a safety, money-saving and energy-saving tool—continues to be an urgent need, according to the RMA.
Last year, an association survey of some 6,300 vehicles showed that 55 percent had at least one underinflated tire; 15 percent had at least one tire underinflated by 8 pounds per square inch (psi) or more; and 10 percent had at least one bald tire.
The RMA's partners in National Tire Safety Week include most of the major tire dealership chains in the U.S., as well as the Tire Industry Association, the American Automobile Association, Automotive Service Excellence, the National Automobile Dealers Association and Hyundai Motor America.
