LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 13, 2010)—The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) has awarded $1.26 million worth of grants to Michigan State University and two Michigan counties for projects to advance the use of crumb-rubber-modified asphalt within the state.
The largest amount, $627,401, goes to five separate projects within the Saginaw County Road Commission to pay up to half the cost of paving some 5.75 miles of road with rubberized asphalt, the agency said in a press release.
Michigan State University, working with the Ingham County Road Commission, will receive $453,199 to pay half the cost of installing and testing three different rubberized asphalt pavement designs.
The Cass County Road Commission will get $181,000 to pay half the cost of installing 1.75 miles of road with rubberized asphalt, including the cost of buying the rubberized asphalt material and the equipment to install it.
