YOKNEAM, Israel (Aug. 27, 2010)—TGL S.P. Industries Ltd. has started production in its new custom compounding factory in Yokneam.
The Soltam Industries Ltd. subsidiary—part of the Pelmar Group—invested nearly $4 million in the project so TGL could supply all its rubber compounds for its own production and also to sell the extra capacity to rubber product makers in Israel and abroad, the company said.
TGL said the new equipment includes a high capacity Farrel Corp. 200-liter mixer and automatic discharging, cooling and stacking line. The compounding operation also has fully automatic weighing and charging systems for carbon black, silica, oil and small chemical ingredients that the firm said will enable it to meet the high technological requirements of its customers.
TGL's main market for its rubber products is military and defense. It said it is one of the largest makers of armored vehicle road wheels, under-vehicle components, tracks and pads.
The company plans to refurbish its present mixing line, which it said will make it the largest custom compounder in the region with capabilities of more than 1,500 metric tons per month.
In addition, TGL upgraded its laboratories, added two chemists and engineers to its staff, and received a grant from the chief scientist in the Ministry of Industry for nano technology research projects.
