EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (Aug. 27, 2010)—Eaton Corp. said its pivot irrigation hose has received the firm's “Green Leaf” symbol for sustainability. The firm said the Green Leaf label will assure farmers that the hose is environmentally friendly and safe for farm land irrigation systems.
The hose is made entirely from post-consumable polyvinyl chloride compound at Eaton's Industrial Hose Solutions unit in Guelph, Ontario. The company said the reuse of PVC translates into lower input energy costs because the material already has been processed once, and lower processing temperatures also are used, reducing processing energy costs.
Eaton said in 2009 it used 1.4 million pounds of recycled PVC in the manufacture of pivot irrigation hose. It is the third Eaton hose style to receive the Green Leaf label. Two Eaton fuel hoses also bear the label, the GH100 ESP hose and the EH089 ESP hose.
The firm said each Green Leaf candidate undergoes a rigorous approval process that includes a formal application, cross-business review and approval panel.
