IZMIT, Turkey (Aug. 19, 2010)—Turkey's tire industry has reached a collective labor agreement that covers more than 4,000 members at four Bridgestone, Goodyear and Pirelli plants.
The deal forestalled a strike, which had been a possibility as employers sought union concessions on working conditions and wage grades, according to the International Federal of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions.
The Lastik-Is union president, Abdullah Karacan, said the agreement preserves what the labor group has won in the past.
