RED BANK, N.J.—Ansell Ltd. has reorganized its global operations, and created a plan to expand organically and by acquisitions.
The latex glove and condom maker is establishing four global business units to support that strategy, according to Magnus Nicolin, CEO and managing director: medical, industrial, sexual health and well being, and new verticals and advanced concepts.
In addition, Ansell will reshape the sourcing and movement of its products by combining the firm's manufacturing, sales and operations planning, sourcing, quality assurance, and distribution functions into an operations group.
Ansell is conducting a global search to find the right person to head up the operations division.
The new global units will have responsibility for business strategy, product development, innovation, brand development and marketing, said Nicolin, who replaced Doug Tough as CEO in March. Tough left the company to take a similar position at another firm.
Nicolin said the company's regions—North America; Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia-Pacific; and Latin America—will work in tandem and continue to be accountable for sales, trade marketing, customer service and local warehousing.
The new setup will minimize product duplication in the regions, Nicolin said, improving speed-to-market while cutting manufacturing complexity and lowering costs.
Acquisitions and mergers are expected to play a key role in future expansion at Ansell, the company said, and to achieve faster execution of a strategic growth plan, the firm also is integrating its business development/mergers and acquisitions unit with its finance operation. Chief Financial Officer Rustom Jilla will head up the expanded department.
The new medical unit will be responsible for rubber and synthetic latex surgical and medical gloves, formerly part of Ansell's professional gloves division. It will be led by Scott Papier, who presently oversees the Americas' region professional and consumer group. The medical business operates out of Red Bank.
The verticals and advanced concepts unit also will be based in Red Bank and headed by Scott Corriveau, the current chief strategy and marketing officer. It will be responsible for developing new markets in the military and first responder, food, auto aftermarket, construction and janitorial/sanitation sectors. The unit will feature a newly created advanced concepts team that focuses on breakthrough innovation, the firm said.
Ansell's industrial business unit, based in Brussels, will handle gloves used in the automotive, metal fabrication, chemicals and pharmaceuticals segments. Heading up the business will be Werner Heintz, who currently leads the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
The sexual health and well being unit will be led by Peter Carroll, who currently oversees the Asia-Pacific region. The business will be responsible for condom production and sales. It will operate out of Melbourne, Australia.
