Elastomers have played an increasingly important role in the evolution of new medical devices catering to the growing needs of our ever aging population. Dynamic changes in demographics typified by the now retiring "baby boomer" generation have increased the ned for reliable and disposable medical devices not only for hospital care but also for ambulatory and home use. This paper will look at the ways silicone rubber can provide a unique set of properties, both physical and biochemical, when developing these devices.
