ESSEN, Germany (July 23, 2010)—Evonik Industries A.G. has added polyurethane foam stabilizers supplied by BYK-Chemie GmbH to its portfolio.
The deal includes BYK's existing business contacts and expertise of products sold under the Silbyk trade name, but no assets or personnel. No financial details were released.
BYK employees involved in the unit will remain employed at the company's main factory in Wesel, Germany, the firm said.
The move allows Evonik to enhance its polyurethane additives business in some market segments and will strengthen its overall market position in the long term, the Essen-based firm said.
In addition to polyurethane foam stabilizers, Evonik's polyurethane-related portfolio includes metal and amine catalysts, release agents, colorants, antioxidants, antistatic agents and other performance additives used in the manufacturing of polyurethane foams and to provide certain physical properties to the final foam products.
The remaining activities of the BYK additives unit will be unaffected by the deal. These include additives for the coatings, printing inks and plastics industries as well as paper surface finishing, the production of adhesives and sealants, construction chemistry and mould release agents for aluminum die casting.
