SEOUL, South Korea (July 1, 2010)—Hankook Tire has obtained a greenhouse emission certification from British Standards Institution, making it the first company in the industry in Korea to receive one.
All Hankook's facilities in Korea passed BSI's exam, and the firm was awarded with the certificate June 14 at the Hankook factory in Daejeon, Chungcheong Province.
A spokesman for BSI said the certificate confirms that Hankook has used appropriate data collection and analysis systems in reporting its greenhouse gas emissions.
The certificate does not assess those emissions against external standards; it confirms that the data presented by the company are accurate.
Suh Sueng Hwa, CEO of Hankook Tire, said this certification sets the foundation to reduce greenhouse gas emission and other future opportunities as such as emission trading and other reducing gas emission programs.
