PITTSBURGH (June 17, 2010)—Liberty Tire Recycling and nationwide bicycle retailer Performance Bicycle are collaborating on a program to encourage cyclists to recycle their old inner tubes, the companies have announced.
Performance Bicycle will sponsor a “Bike Tube Blow-Out” event during the grand opening of 12 stores across the U.S., according to the company. Customers who bring old inner tubes to the events will receive up to three $5 gift cards each, Liberty Tire and Performance Bicycle said.
The stores are opening in Pittsburgh and Allentown, Pa.; Columbia, Md.; Indianapolis; Lombard, Ill.; Raleigh, N.C.; Tualatin, Ore.; Tukwila, Wash.; and Oxnard, Santa Monica, Santa Rosa, and Woodland Hills, Calif. For “Bike Tube Blow-Out” dates, visit www.performancebicycle.com .
Liberty Tire Recycling, which claims to be the largest tire recycler in the U.S., creates about 1.5 billion pounds of recycled rubber annually from more than 100 million tires. Performance Bicycle has 86 retail outlets across the U.S.
